Why use a VPN for your business?

Privacy is a big thing for companies operating in the digital world. So, it’s no surprise VPN’s are becoming more and more sought after.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) can be a great solution for many businesses, regardless of size. However, we recommend smaller businesses who handle sensitive to have one put in place. This is becoming increasingly important especially after work related scams are becoming more frequent.

Could a VPN be a good step for your business? Let’s explain and see…

What is a VPN?

A VPN is a connection that lets you access the internet safely, by keeping your service private. This means that your internal users are protected as the connection is through a server, meaning it hides any online actions from users outside the network.

How does it work?

Firstly, if we look at how a network operates without a VPN in place.

Essentially your information is transmitted from your devices to the internet. There is no network or protection in place.

A VPN however, intercepts this transmission. Meaning that any data is encrypted before it reaches the internet. A great advantage of this is that the destination site (on the internet) will see the VPN as the traffic origin, not your personal IP address and location.

Because of this, no one could easily trace who you or what device you are providing the data from. This also means that your traceable actions (e.g. websites you are visiting, or data you are transferring) can be seen.

Finally, as your data is encrypted even if someone does view at what is being sent, they only see information that is encrypted.

What benefits are there?

Reduced security breaches and cyber attacks

By having a VPN in place, you are keeping your employees off public network. This decreases the vulnerability of being caught out by website malware or dangerous viruses.

Productivity boost

Have you heard of the dangers of joining a public WIFI to do business operations? With a VPN in place, it means your employees can connect to an internet point and keep safe. Giving them peace of mind whilst travelling or working remotely.

Client-side security

The reverse of having improved security internally means that clients can wholeheartedly trust their data with your company. This could even become a selling point. As it’s very encouraging to know that a business is proactively thinking about protecting a client’s data before they even have a relationship together.

Low cost – Big gain!

VPN’s are surprisingly affordable. A cost can be as little as £10 a month.
A small price to pay for security and privacy.
